Underfloor ventilation

Following on from yesterday's post, many homes in the UK use timber on their ground floors. This is, they have timber joists (like upstairs) and a void underneath.

In order for the timber not to rot, the void needs to be ventilated and hence this is why you will notice that homes without a basement have vents on the front and the rear of the house.

If this is the case in your home, make sure they are not blocked and if the floor feels cold, consider whether you should insulate it.
