The value of historical features

What do you think is the final post 5/5 in our discussion of the most common misconceptions about architecture and design?

Well, to me it is: Assuming you need to start from scratch.

The complete disregard for the existing, can bring unnecessary expenses and result in the loss of historical features which it may even even constitute a criminal offence (More on this later) . Furthermore, it could even lower the resale value of your home.

And so, before jumping into a full refurbishment, invest time getting to know your home and ask yourself what features make it unique and should be preserved and which changes you need to improve the building.

Follow up: A fact many people are not aware of is that in the UK, it is a Criminal Offence to carry out works that require listed building consent without such a consent being obtained. And just so that you know, It is not a defence to say that the fact that the building was listed was not known.
