RIBA stage 1: preparation and briefing

RIBA develops many tools to help architects interact with the rest of the industry.

One of those tools is the Plan of Works, where the RIBA stages come from.

Have you ever heard people speak about RIBA stages when speaking about the different stages a project goes through?

Today, I will discuss Stage 1: This is the stage where you (the client) will define the client brief - a document that brings together what you want to achieve and what is possible to achieve. It is NOT a design stage (design starts in the next stage) but a strategic one. Spending a generous amount of time in this stage is worth it to know exactly what the direction of the project will be.
