RIBA Stage 0: Strategic definition

Have you ever heard people speak about RIBA stages when speaking about the different stages a project goes through?

RIBA, or the Royal Institute of British Architects is a club that was set up to champion architecture in 1834.

It is NOT (i repeat) it is NOT the regulator. -that would be ARB

However, they develop many tools to help architects do their job. They also develop tools to help architects interact with the rest of the industry

One of those tools is the Plan of works.... where the RIBA stages come from.

Ok, so today, I will discuss Stage 0 very simply:

Every #Arkhlient should know that this is the stage where you (the client) stablish basic principles you need to consider before any design starts.

You will consider affordability, strategic value for money decisions, short/long term decisions inc. but not limited to energy usage, maintenance of the building etc

You will also think about the impact the decisions you are making today will have in the future of the building and, for example, decide whether or not you should build in some flexibility for future adaptation/evolution etc

This is an introspective stage that is not about design (though you might need some expertise to help you) it is about you, the Arkhient.
