I have started a series to discuss some "common misconceptions about design" (in general and architecture and interiors in particular) 2/5
Today, I will discuss why assuming that “if so and so did it, so can I”
Yesterday we discussed the value that embracing the local resources available to you brings to design and once again i want to emphasise that despite what Social Media platforms such as this one of Pinterest suggest, real innovation can emerge from exploring the resources available to you wherever you are in the world.
Furthermore, rules and regulations will impact your design and when it comes to architecture and the built environment in particular, you should always do your homework and check what specific conditions apply to your project rather than expect that you wil be able to emulate projects that are based elsewhere or those that were built in a different time.
And goes without saying that If you are building in a different country, you should never assume you can follow the rules from your own country or the need to bring solutions needed in your own context to places where either the need does not exist or they may have found a better way to address it.
Instead, find a local team to work with and learn from them.
