Common problems when over-modernising

I am referring to old but unlisted buildings where one would still find fireplaces, cornices, high skirtings, elaborated architraves, and many other original features that set the property apart from more widely available ones.

By removing period features that add to the character of your home, you could be reducing the value of it but also the saleability. And should you ever choose to sell your property, you would be competing with those that have been restored or preserved which tend to attract higher price tags due to the scarcity of such properties.

An #Arkhlient is mindful that whereas in the past (even twenty years ago) you would have found original features (to incorporate in your project) reasonably priced on Ebay, for example, these days the availability is substantially reduced and therefore, should you change your mind in the future, you could struggle to source or would have to pay a premium.
