Not only you will pay for materials that you will not be using but also for the workmanship, the costs for the site to be open and any other penalties related to delays.
When a client changes their mind and ask for changes of specification, they often forget to think that if the manufacturer has already manufactured the fittings, even though they may have not delivered, costs are likely to apply.
Same with something "as simple" as wall colours. Deciding when your decorator has completed the work will cause delays and could have a major impact on whether they are able to accommodate and do the job
Remember that contractors want to do a good job and if they can, they will accommodate your wishes, but if they are booked up for another project, you might not get them back for a while.... and of course they will not do the work free ...
